Barry LyndonBarry Lyndon

So, it’s very early Monday morning.

I just got off work and although James, my cousin and boss, worked me like a slave, I can’t sleep. I don’t know why this is. Honestly, there probably really is no reason, but the idea of just lying in my wonderfully comfortable bed thinking about hundreds of things before I drift to sleep doesn’t seem appealing. There is absolutely no reason at all for this lack of excitement towards sleep — except one, of course. I drank a lot of Coke.

I like my caffeinated beverages, what can I say?

Not too much has happened in the last few days. Jacki and I hung out last night and after leaving her house distraught with nothing to do, I resolved to watch a movie I’ve been meaning to watch for quite a long time: Barry Lyndon. It’s a movie directed by Stanley Kubrick.

For those of you uninitiated into the world of Stanley Kubrick, I have to say that you’re truly missing out on some of the greatest movies ever made. I’m a Kubrick zealot. Anyway, I had heard Barry Lyndon was one of Kubrick’s worst movies; I wanted to check this out for myself. So, I watched it. I have one thing to say about it and that one thing is, “I rather liked this movie.”

Oh, and to be true to what I wrote, I actually SAID that while typing it. Also, I’m probably the biggest nerd ever so, ladies, if you like nerdy guys you’re reading the words of the king of ‘em here. I’m the Alpha Male Nerd.

Back to the movie though.

It was good! Keep in mind, naturally, that it’s a Kubrick movie so it’s around 2 and a half hours long (3 hours and 4 minutes long to be exact). There was a brief intermission after the first half. Strangely enough, the time literally flew by. I mean, I can handle long movies quite well, but usually I ended getting slightly bored. With this movie, time went past quickly. When the movie was finished, I figured it was 4 a.m. or so. I was wrong. It was six in the morning. I loved every minute I spent watching it though.

The whole experience really was like heaven to me.

The best part, for me, was definitely the music. I loved all the visual stuff, but the music just totally captured everything about the period. Oh, it’s a period piece, by the way. 18th or 19th Century, I don’t really remember. There was a thing about the 7 Years’ War in there, I think, but it’s so late (early?) right now I don’t remember when that was. I want to say 1750s or 60s, but I could be utterly and horribly wrong. Eh. I’ll check it out later. If you really care about it, look it up for me, then comment about how stupid and foolishly wrong I am. Or, just be like me and don’t care because it really doesn’t matter.

Anyway, period piece. Cintematography good. Music deliciously good. Period piece. I don’t remember history at 6 in the morning. Blast, I summarized “period piece” twice.

On a totally unrelated topic, I want to talk about my journal.

About a month or so ago, I decided to thoroughly follow the stats of visitors to my site. I’ve learned some VERY interesting things from looking at the data for July and August (don’t worry, I can’t see who the people are or anything like that. I can only tell where some people are coming from). Number one on the list is that I seem to get A LOT of hits from people looking up information about thrift stores in Ohio (specifically the Valley Thrift Store). Oh, and by mentioning that very store again in a post, I’ll probably get another hundred hits today alone. Number two is that I’ve had a lot hits from people looking up information (from Google, presumably) on brazierres and, this is quoted directly from a referrer log, “presidential nudity.”

Wow.

What’s more concerning is that I actually have 2 posts about both brazierres and presidential nudity. The are here and here. Sadly, I don’t have any posts where I tackle both those subjects head on.

Hmm. A goal for the future and a way for me to contribute to the literary world.

That single post would probably be responsible for 89% of all the traffic I receive. That’d be pretty awesome, right? Yeah, probably not.

But, uh. Huh. That’s all I’ve got for this morning. For everyone out there who sleeps at normal times, have a wonderful day. And for people like me, goodnight and such.
