Man, it’s already Thursday (Friday technically).

It’s hard to believe that it’s already so late in the week. The time has certainly flown by, and I’m not even ready to leave this grand ole place I call Ohio University yet. I will miss the school when I’m gone because while I’m at home, I will be working quite a bit. My solace is found in what I’m working towards. My goal is this. In case you are too busy (or perhaps snobbish–how dare you, sir) to follow that link, I will tell you what it is; it’s a Nikon D70 Digital SLR.

Photography Rant
Actually, this is not what I really want. For once, I am being somewhat realistic. I think the D70 would be an excellent camera, but I’m not too keen on the kit lens. It’s not bad, but it’s not the only lens I want. I would love to get the Nikon 12-24mm DX, but unfortunately, that costs $1000. It really is a nice lens though–internal focusing unit, vibration reduction, silent auto-focus… oh, baby. In addition to that lens, I would love to get a nice Nikon zoom lens to cover the rest of the focal lengths. Plus, I’d love to get a 50mm f1.4 standard. The flash I want is really the only kind I could get for this camera, the SB-800 ($300). The D70 has a built-in flash, but you will see hell freeze over before I use that, at least in anything other than a demanding situation. With all that, I’d love to get a second battery one of the multi-battery chargers and a nice 4Gb memory card with some of the Write Acceleration technology. As you can see, this is getting expensive, so I’ll have to pace myself and purchase all this stuff one at a time.

End Photography Rant

Sorry about that, but I get really excited sometimes. I should talk about my week. On Monday, I don’t really remember what I did. TUESDAY, however, is very different. Irene and I went to Larry’s Dawg House and I had some of the best food I’ve ever eaten in my entire life. I had never been to the “D-House,” as I affectionately call it, and it was an experience I’m not likely to forget anytime soon due to what I believe to be gastrointestinal bleeding. I should note that even a few days after this experience, my stomach still feels like it will burst open any second.

That’s good eatin’!

The drive to the D-House was also sort of interesting. Apparently, Irene’s roommate has been STEALING (that’s right, I said it) her tweezers. So, being the crazy person she is, Irene marked her tweezers with nail polish. When she confronted her roommate with the fact that the tweezers she was using had the “Mark of Irene,” she smiled and said she “must have grabbed the wrong ones.” I think I speak for Irene and all of us when I say, “that stupid hoe-bag.” Oh–and I backed into a pole because I had a Shaun moment and didn’t realize when things get closer in the rearview mirror, that’s bad. After the D-House, we took our food back to my dorm to eat, and we watched Ocean’s Eleven. I forgot how much I love that movie.

So, that was Tuesday.

Wednesday was also just as exciting (or was it?). I went to bed on Tuesday morning at around 3:30 a.m. and didn’t actually go to sleep until 5:00 (I had been up late because I forgot I had to work in the morning). At 8:30, I got up and went to work for 6 truly wonderful hours. The whole time, I could barely keep my eyes open, but I seemed to make it through the day (must’ve been the free food). At 5:00 in the p.m., I headed back to my dorm where I instantly fell asleep and didn’t wake up until 7:30, which happened to be a good thing because I had fencing at 8:00. So, I got dressed because I sleep in the nude (insert collective “Wow.” here) and headed to fencing.

When I got to fencing, the most exciting thing in the world happened. I got a Birffday card! Yes, I am aware it was not my Birffday (that is a actually on November 23rd, as opposed to my Birthday. See description here ).

I still thought it was really cool though. “Why, Shaun–I want to bear your children. But, whoever gave you this card?” you ask? Well, it was none other than Janice, the World’s Most Exciting Air National Guard Recruit. I was ecstatic about getting the card, but because I was so tired, I don’t think I celebrated properly. I should have break danced in celebration, but instead, I yawned and squinted at the card while trying to read. Really–great card though. Thanks!

Note: My face looks kind of like a turnip with a beak and sunglasses in the card. It’s bloody awesome!

After that, I went to Angie’s where Angie, Beth and Maria threw me a little party to celebrate the day of my birth even though, once again, it was not my birthday. I guess people just like to celebrate whenever they feel it is most convenient for them. I don’t really care though because I still got some really excellent presents from them–the cards were hilarious too. Apparently, people actually thought about what to get me for my birthday this year. I got a really old book from Angie (it’s about and from WWI!) and Beth gave me a toy hamster! While playing with the toy hamster, I realized why all my pets die. This revelation came to me as I was tossing it into the air and sometimes catching it–something I like to do with real pets too. We all had a lot of fun “partying it up,” but I had to go back to my dorm eventually because I had 2 finals on Thursday (today… sort of). I should mention there were peanut butter cookies at my party.

Mmm… my favorite.

Today–yes, we’re just getting to today–I had 2 (count ‘em, 2) finals: Russian and Film History. Russian went pretty well, I studied what I needed to study, and I expect a fairly decent grade on that one. My Film History final went pretty much the same way, although I feel I ran out of time. I honestly have no clue how people finished it within an hour–I think I’m longwinded (notice the length of this post).

The most rewarding part of my day came after my film exam. Perhaps you remember the paper I stayed up until 4:00 a.m. writing (See Russian 211 Brings Much Vodka and Much Joy)? Well, I got the paper back after I handed in my exam. When I went up to the TA, he pulled me aside (it was easy because I was almost the last one in the room) and congratulated me on the job I did with the paper. He really liked my analysis of 2001: A Space Odyssey. He also suggested that maybe I should consider film school and if I ever do go I should include this in my portfolio with a few minor revisions. I don’t say that to brag or anything, but it totally made my day. I was pretty much on Cloud Nine (up from Cloud Two or Three) the rest of the day, and I still continune to be.

Also, he said all this within the audible range of one of my archenemies in film class, so that was somewhat rewarding as well. I feel kind of bad for wanting him to hear, but it wasn’t something I sought out intentionally, so I guess it’s OK.

That’s my story for this week though. Tomorrow I have a history exam, which I’m somewhat concerned about, but not much. I can get a C on the exam and still pull out a respectable grade. I would really love to have an A though. Sorry for the length of this entry, but I was behind and needed to get caught up. I will post tomorrow (although much shorter). Expect it.

Wow what an update you have been busy. I love the descrpition of the tweezer incident, you captured it perfectly. However you forgot to mention the chach (I have no idea how you would spell it) from Ocean’s Eleven… come on you know who I am talking about…the one who doesn’t back away once he see’s there is no one in the car, and then is amazed when it blows up.

And can I say how much more concerned with your grades you are than I am. You are like I really hope for an A I am like D is for diploma, I am now ashamed, and maybe just maybe I will actually go study for my 10am exam.
