The adventures of Shaun — a man revered as a god in some ancient cultures.
Ha ha! It’s Thursday!
It works! Everything works (for the most part)! I am FINALLY finished upgrading my system! It works better than before even! For those of you who have not been paying attention, there hasn’t been a new entry on this journal for a solid week and a half. There is just cause for my absence from the soapbox and that is because I have been upgrading the backend I use to manage all my content. I’m going to get a little technical for anyone who cares (there’s one person in India right now who wants to know, I think), so if you don’t care, feel free to skip right over this next section.

I am currently using Wordpress 1.5 to manage all this journal. I was using Wordpress 1.2.1. I had been meaning to upgrade a long time ago, but I never got around to it and plus, it’s not all that great to be the first to upgrade to something because there are always bugs remaining (particularly in Open Source stuff). The other day though, I was working on something for the extras section of the web site and I realized that I COULD NOT manage the page I was working on, or any future pages I would’ve created, with the least of ease. To fix this, I upgraded to 1.5 because it is MUCH easier to manage pages in 1.5. The reason it took me so long is that the template for the site is based off of Wordpress 1.2.1. Now, I could have quite easily just changed 3 or 4 lines of code and had everything work decently well, but I am, of course, anal retentive about having things work properly. Also, there were a ton of new features I could’ve taken advantage of that my current template didn’t. So, I redesigned the entire backend of the journal. When I say “redesigned,” I mean TOTALLY redesigned. The backend translates to how the pages/posts are delivered, how they are stored, the very nature of the archives, how single posts are delivered, etc., etc. A good analogy would be that of a house. Imagine ripping out all the electrical stuff, all the piping, the insulation—really anything behind the dry wall. Oh, and the foundation. Now, imagine having to rebuild all this while making sure the house looked exactly the same as before. So, if you were wondering why this took so long the answer can be given in two nice and simple points: 1) it’s difficult to restructure the foundation of a house without tearing it down and 2) I have OCD.

Now, what have I been up to?
Well, on Saturday of last week, Jason and I went to see a high school’s musical because Jason has the hots for one of the girls who was in it. You know, that sounds a little crazy. I should note that he was invited, Chris and Barb were there, and we both know the girl. Anyway, the name of the play was The Melody Lingers On and it was about the life of Irving Berlin. Really, the cast did a fantastic job for the most part. They didn’t seem like they had a lot to work with in terms of $$$, but they managed. A lot of people did very well and others were so-so. Katie, the chick who we went to see, was one of the three best singers up there.
OH!!!
I had THE BEST CAKE I’VE EVER HAD IN MY LIFE ON SATURDAY! It was at the play! They served dessert and I drank black coffee like a sailor! It was bloody awesome! Both were!
Yeah, that was Saturday though.
Another monumental day was Monday (I don’t remember Sunday). Jacki and I had a Macaulay Caulkin Marathon. This was not my idea, and I will admit that I was skeptical about it at first, but I actually enjoyed it. We went backwards in time. First was Saved!, which was extremely good, but punk’d out in the end. That was followed by Richie Rich. Who could forget Robo-Bee and my personal favorite, the Dad Link (Dad not found. Dad not found). Last, but not least, we ended with the film that started it all: Home Alone. I hadn’t seen it for quite a while, so it was nice to return back to the early ’90s for a little bit.
On Tuesday, I don’t remember what happened either.
Last night, Jacki and I were supposed to do something with Jason after he got out of class @ 8, but apparently he didn’t feel like doing anything because it would’ve been too late before we could’ve done something. I think. I’m not really sure what was happening. He seemed a little mad that we wanted to get Taco Bell and watch American Idol. Really though, AI was only 30 minutes long, so that would’ve put us at 9:30 when we were going to do stuff. Since we were going to Taco Bell at around 8:45 with Jason (assuming we actually would’ve left that early) the earliest possible time we could’ve gotten home would’ve been 9:15. Jason sounded like he wanted to do something, so I don’t think we would’ve just came home; we probably would’ve gone to Wal-Mart to get me socks (really).
It was kind of disappointing he wasn’t there, but oh well, I guess. Jacki and I tried to bribe him with Scrabble to come over, but the ace up our sleeve didn’t work. Blast.
That was last night though, and that brings me to today where nothing has happened yet.
You know, in all honesty, I don’t really like entries like this one. I think they’re kind of boring. I suppose that TOMORROW I will update with a real post. One that snares the readers and leaves them in want of more. Really, I’m just glad that I got the journal working again. I was a little worried at one point that it would be out of commission for a little bit. As luck would have it, I managed to pursure my vision (ha) and I ended up with something that I’m actually quite proud of. By the way, if you find a bug, let me know. I tried my best to iron out all the kinks, but something usually pops up that I can’t solve. Also, look forward to more dramatic changes in the coming days.
Well, apparently I’m an idiot. Laura so kindly pointed out to me (using a lot of curse words I might add) that on SATURDAY I went to Laura’s birthday party. The musical was on Friday. Jason went to the musical, but couldn’t make it to Laura’s party due to his work schedule. At her party, which happened to be a tart and vicar party (a la Bridget Jones’ Diary) I gave Laura a pair of skis I bought at the Goodwill for $11.00. Also, I came dressed as a very convincing vicar (priest) while Laura looked like a tart (whore). It was fun times and I honestly cannot believe I messed it up.
Hmm… you know what? On second thought I can believe it. All of this was based on my memory. I’ve forgotten my own name before. Sorry about that Laura.
